Ford Key Monitors Teen Drivers

Are you a parent who sweats when your teen takes the family wheels out on the town? Ford feels your pain. They have recently introduced the MyKey, a programmable ignition key for Ford automobiles that monitors teenage driving behavior. So what can this magic key do? A lot of things. It can limit the speed of the car, say 80 mph. It can limit the volume of the stereo. It can prevent the stereo from even coming on if someone in the car isn't wearing their seat belt. It can also make warning sounds when your teen begins to hit higher speeds. For the parent who wants a play-by-play, this PC World article mentions that for a fee parents can have the key track the point-by-point destinations through the GPS.

What do you think, is this a little too big brother or what every parent has been waiting for? MyKey will be introduced as a free standard feature in the 2010 Ford Focus and Ford hopes to eventually make it a standard feature on all Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models. I'm sure kids everywhere are already talking to their smartest computer-hacking friends.

Technology Is a Relationship Killer

John O'Neill, the director of addictions services at the Menninger Clinic in Houston, Texas says that "technology overload"--addiction-like behavior using electronic gadgets like cellphones or acting as a slave to e-mail can be just as destructive to a relationship as drugs or alcohol. The article from Reuters Life! says the Internet/Computer Addiction Services in Redmond, Washington estimate that 6 to 10 percent of the approximately 189 million Internet users in the U.S. have a dependency on technology.

One of the signs O'Neill says to keep an eye on is when you or your spouse uses text, e-mail or phone call rather than face-to-face interaction when it would be more appropriate. Do you find that this is a problem in your relationship? We'd love to hear from you on this. To read the full article, click here.

BeerTender Hits Shore, Soon

When you think of Krups you probably think coffee. When you think Heineken you're talkin' beer. Well, the two companies have paired together to offer home beer drinkers (like there's a market there) a fridge/keg system that offers cold beer on tap. This post from Engadget says the 5-liter Heineken keg will stay fresh for 30 days.

We know the holidays have passed, but I'm sure there's a lot of husbands who wouldn't mind walking into the kitchen to find one of these on the countertop. It'll run you $400, though. Don't worry, you'll have time to save since it's only currently available in Europe and won't hit U.S. shores until March at Williams-Sonoma and everywhere else in April.

Wanna i-SOBOT?

It could be the hottest toy this holiday season, or it could fail miserably. One thing is for sure - the i-SOBOT looks pretty cool. The 6.5-inch, bipedal mechanical creature has attracted the eyes of many internet websites, blogs and popular gadget sites like Gizmodo and Engadget. The Robot even has a Myspace page with more than 160 friends. If Junior or - I'm guessing - the the men of the house want one, it's going to set you back around $300. The i-SOBOT can perform 200 actions, with some you can view here. Tomy Corp. sells the robot at amazon.com, e-toys and in Sharper Image stores. However, we're still not guaranteeing you will be the cool one on the block, though you will own 6.5-inches of expensive plastic.

What A Man Won't Do For His Gadgets

This story is pulled from a very reputable blog, Gizmodo. The short of it (no pun intended), is the story of a man who looooves Apple products. He couldn't resist and purchased an iPhone--without clearing it with his wife. This was not in the budget. As you could imagine, the wife was not very happy, but she gave him an out--get a vasectomy. Snip, snip, the man--Sean Johnson--got to keep his 8GB bundle of joy. What would you do for a surgery like this?

A Really Cool Gift Finder

Not sure what to get your husband or wife? Check out this really cool gift finder by Imagini. All you have to do is answer a few simple questions by clicking on the appropriate picture. For example, it will ask you what their house most looks like and all you have to do is click on the picture that is most like your house. It goes on to ask how they like to spend their time, what does freedom look like, etc. After about 10 questions it gives you a gift guide that's pretty darn accurate. It's also fun to do one for yourself and then have your spouse do one. See who knows you better. Click here to try it.

Wife-ometer

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, creator or Mario and Zelda says when working on the new Wii console and controller he knew he had a hit when it passed the "wife-ometer". It's a test of whether or not his wife likes a game, system, etc. He had her take the same test when working on the Nintendo DS Lite. He says that's when she became a gamer. We all have "wife-ometer" tests that we run, right? What's your? Click here for the full article.

Geocaching

A while back, we wrote an article about geocaching as a Date Night. This article in the OC Register highlights a couple who seemed to have taken our advice. The article says, "For both of them, the pastime is a couples-bonding adventure". If you're not familiar with geocaching, it's discovering treasure by using a GPS navigation device and coordinates usually found on websites. Typical protocol says once you find something, you are to leave something behind for the next person. To get more information, read our article by clicking Date Night above.

Free SwapThing

Looking for a great gift for your husband or wife this year but don't have a great budget? There's a website called SwapThing that lets members swap items. Users post what they're willing to swap and what they're looking for. A recent swap that they've announced was a 10 carat diamond bracelet for a Mitsubishi 3000GT 71K Miles (It's an $8,000 Stereo). For the first week of December SwapThing is allowing free swaps for the first week in December. Swaps are normally a couple bucks a swap. If you have items of lesser value than what you're looking for, then you can add money to your offer. Hey, it beats a stocking full of coal.
