Outdoor Lovin'

Are you looking to add some serious spice to your marriage? Check out this website called Outdoor Lovemap. It is what it sounds like, a map of places around the world to make love. Of course, you could get into legal trouble if you're in a spot you're not supposed to be in and this website doesn't seem like it takes any of that information into account. It's basically a user-generated map that grades sites on a five-star system of privacy, comfort and legality. Each site is also given a description of the location. Last month, the site cracked 100 locations. Click here to check out the map.

Nearly Half Want to Move

In new survey by a Pew Research Center found that nearly half of Americans want to live elsewhere. The survey was survey conducted over the telephone in October with 2,260 adults and reveals some really interesting tidbits. For example, more Americans would rather live in a place with more McDonald's than Starbucks. Furthermore, affluent adults are twice as likely as poorer individuals to want to live in Boston. The survey also helped identify where some of these people would prefer living and not live. The survey found that men in rural areas are far happier living there than women. But the city isn't for everyone either. Fewer than half of all city residents say there is no better place to live than in a city, and adults 50 to 64 who live in cities are the least likely to say they live in the ideal place.

So where does everyone want to go? The survey says...Denver, followed by San Diego and Seattle. Are you happy where you live?

Ford Key Monitors Teen Drivers

Are you a parent who sweats when your teen takes the family wheels out on the town? Ford feels your pain. They have recently introduced the MyKey, a programmable ignition key for Ford automobiles that monitors teenage driving behavior. So what can this magic key do? A lot of things. It can limit the speed of the car, say 80 mph. It can limit the volume of the stereo. It can prevent the stereo from even coming on if someone in the car isn't wearing their seat belt. It can also make warning sounds when your teen begins to hit higher speeds. For the parent who wants a play-by-play, this PC World article mentions that for a fee parents can have the key track the point-by-point destinations through the GPS.

What do you think, is this a little too big brother or what every parent has been waiting for? MyKey will be introduced as a free standard feature in the 2010 Ford Focus and Ford hopes to eventually make it a standard feature on all Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models. I'm sure kids everywhere are already talking to their smartest computer-hacking friends.

How to Beat New Luggage Charge

American Airlines announced today that they'll begin charging travelers for their luggage. No, not starting with their second bag, but the first bag that travelers check-in. American Airlines will impose a $15 fee beginning June 15th. This article from MSNBC offers a few tips for how to beat the new charge. First, read your contract and make sure that AA doesn't try to charge you before June 15th. Second, carry your bag on. Obviously you'd have to pack lighter so that you could carry it on, but for a short trip it'll do. Third, flash your frequent flier card--they're exempt from the new charge. Finally, MSNBC recommends notifying the Transportation Department of your displeasure and ask them to act. Geez, as if traveling in the summer wasn't tough enough.

Pack Cash if You Pack A Second Bag

The No. 2 airline in the U.S. has announced that fliers will have to pay to pack a second bag. Beginning May 5, passengers on United flights will have to pay $25 each way for a second bag and $100 if they want to check a third bag. A United spokesperson said a major reason for the new charge is due to the rise in gas prices. However, members of United's Mileage Plus frequent-flier program and those who book non-refundable economy-class tickets for trips within the US and between the US and Canada are exempt. To be a frequent flier, you need to fly at least 25,000 miles a year. Read the full article here.

Santa Coming to Town--For Only Microseconds

Anders Larsson of the engineering consultancy Sweco told AFP that Santa Clause would have to travel 3,604 miles per second in order to jump from house to house to deliver one gift to every child on earth. He would have 48 hours to complete his journey touching on the estimated 2.5 billion homes. Did we mention this would include his cookie breaks too? To accomplish this feat, "he has 34 microseconds at each stop," says Larsson, to slide down the chimney, drop off the presents, nibble on his cookies and milk and hop back on his sleigh. Larsson also says Santa must live in Kyrgyzstan in order to accomplish this feat. You can ready the entire article here.

New Twist on Vacations

The tourism industry has a new niche. "Why just take a vacation, when you can change your life?" they tout. That's right! Instead of taking the ordinary "fly to your destination, get the hotel room and relax by the pool" concept, vacation planners are promoting more than relaxation, they are promising transformation with yoga and wellness-type itineraries for their customers. And why would you want to do this? The response: people want to have a life changing experience. And for married couples, it's a whole new way to connect with your partner, purveyors of the new vacation style attest. Marketing and research firm Ypartnership said its latest survey of affluent travelers showed 30 percent of respondents named yoga as their favorite spa program or service. Massage was the most popular with 65 percent. Well, duh. Regardless, next time you sit down and plan a getaway, think about the possibility of changing your life with your spouse. Just make sure you don't overextend your yoga posses and come home broken.

Save on Gas, Carpool

Are the $3+ gas prices starting to tick you off? It may be surprising then that a new Census Bureau report came out indicating that the share of people driving alone to work increased slightly to 77 percent between 2000 to 2005. What also may be surprising is that seven of the top 10 metro areas for carpooling are in California. The about of commuters using public transportation virtually stayed the same. The city where there are the most single drivers are Canton, Ohio. Click here to get all the information.

One Of A Kind Hotels

Are you planning your summer vacation already? If so, but not sure where to stay, you can always check out this crazy list of hotels ranging from an underwater sea lodge to a London courthouse where John Lennon and Johnny Rotten were both booked when it was in operation. Yes, we did say underwater sea lodge--meaning you have to scuba dive just to ring the door bell. Also in this article is a treehouse hotel (for the six-year-old in you) and a hotel made entirely out of ice (for the James Bond in you). There are many other places listed with links to the hotels websites for more details. Watch out for sharks on your way to your room.

Geocaching

A while back, we wrote an article about geocaching as a Date Night. This article in the OC Register highlights a couple who seemed to have taken our advice. The article says, "For both of them, the pastime is a couples-bonding adventure". If you're not familiar with geocaching, it's discovering treasure by using a GPS navigation device and coordinates usually found on websites. Typical protocol says once you find something, you are to leave something behind for the next person. To get more information, read our article by clicking Date Night above.

Valentine's Idea for Every State

Are you still searching for the perfect Valentine's date idea? USA Today just posted a piece on "50 Dates in 50 States". Since it's the largest national newspaper in the country, these things may be crowded now, but you never know. So what do they suggest? For residents of North Carolina they suggest a private picnic on the grounds of the VanLandingham Estate. In South Carolina they suggest a cooking class for two at Charleston Cooks! In Washington they recommend a sunset kayak tour from Orcas Island in the San Juan archipelago to nearby Obstruction Island. And in California an early morning hot-air balloon ride over Napa Valley wine country. To check out their recommendations for your area or for more details about the above mentioned ideas, click here.

Don't Forget Your Passport

Are you and your spouse traveling to one of our neighboring countries? As of January 23, anybody, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport. Gone are the days of flashing your driver's license and moving through the line. Another ripple from the World Trade Center attacks. Moving forward, starting January 1, 2008, passports will be required if you're traveling to those above mentioned countries by air, land or sea. It's the official paper lockdown of our borders. So if you're planning a trip and you don't have a passport, better work on getting one soon. Here's more information from the official government website.

Flying Turkeys

It turns out that more people plan on flying on Thanksgiving than last year. According to this article from USA Today, 66% of the turkey-day traffic will be flying, compared to 63% last year.
