Jerry Seinfeld To Save Marriages

Do you miss your Seinfeld time on TV? The wait for his return is almost over. NBC just announced that Jerry Seinfeld will return as the creator and executive producer of a new show called The Marriage Ref. According to the release, the show will feature "opinionated" celebrities, comedians and sports stars who will candidly comment, judge and offer different strategies for real-life couples in the midst of a classic marital dispute. Seinfeld dds, "This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich." Six one-hour episodes have been ordered for a planned fall release. Hopefully Seinfeld himself will make an appearance on camera, but there's no information of that yet. From somebody else this type of show could come off as cheap drivel, but in the hands of a comic legend, The Marriage Ref has big laugh potential.

Will Smith: The Secret to Marriage Is...

It's sad that it's so abnormal, but the fact that Will Smith and wife Jada have made their Hollywood marriage last 11 years is something worth noting. It seems that marriages in Hollywood are in dog years. So what's their secret? In an interview with Essence magazine, Will says it's dedication. "The secret is removing divorce as an option. Anyone who gives themselves that option will get a divorce," says Will. Jada adds in the interview that in order for any relationship to survive, you need to work at it. Will says that in life, we're all alone. "But when somebody loves you, that experience is shared," says Will. "Love is the only real connective tissue that allows you to not live and die by yourself."

What's your secret to a successful marriage?

New Movie on Marriage: Fireproof

Coming out tomorrow is a movie called Fireproof. It's based around the story of a firefighter trying to save his marriage. Just before he and his wife go down the path of divorce, the main character, played by Kirk Cameron, accepts a challenge by his father to give it another go. In the process, he finds faith and new love for God. It's the story of a firefighter who dedicates his life to saving others, but is struggling to keep his own home intact. In an interview, Cameron says the divorce rates for firefighters is a whopping 75 percent! This movie seems to have struck a nerve and been getting a lot of buzz (maybe we just surround ourselves with marriage information so it seems that way). Had you heard of this movie? Do you think you'll go see it? If you do, please post something on the network, we'd love to hear your thoughts. Click here to go to the movie's website.

Emmy's This Weekend

If you haven't heard, the Emmy's will air this Sunday on ABC. The Emmy's have in the past been dominated by HBO, but there's buzz this year that AMC's show "Mad Men" is expected to be the breakout winner. If you're unaware, "Mad Men" does have HBO roots. Matthew Weiner, the creator of "Mad Men" was a writer and executive producer for "The Sopranos". HBO did have the opportunity of picking up Mad Men when the show was being shopped around but passed. Whoops. Don't feel sorry for HBO, though. They're expected to pile up the awards for their mini-series John Adams, where Paul Giamatti plays the second U.S. president and Laura Linney plays his wife Abigail Adams. Here are the nominees for outstanding drama series: Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, House, Lost, and Mad Men.

Which show are you rooting for? Click here to read all the nominees.

Renew Vows to Save Marriage

Renewing your vows is a tradition of reminder and putting the spotlight back on your commitment to each other. For some couples that may have lost their ways, renewing your vows may help refocus your marriage and get it back on track. Dawn O. Braithwaite, professor of communication studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has researched couples who opt to renew their vows. She says "I would not advise anyone to do this out of desperation and say, 'I'm going to save my marriage. This is like the icing on the cake." But even if it is a last resort, Susan Heitler, a Denver-based clinical psychologist and author of "The Power of Two" says a renewal of vows can be a fresh start for those who are still very much in love, but who cannot seem to get the hang of married life. This article from ABC News highlights celebrities who are doing it and suggests that if a few of them find success for their rocky marriages, then it could become a more popular trend. Have you ever renewed your vows?

In return, however, Mephisto would erase all memory of their marriage together. That's right, all memories of their marriage--gone!

That got us thinking, would you erase the memories of your marriage in order to save your spouse? Or would you let nature take its course. Click here to read the whole article from USA Today.

Another Reality Show to Save Marriages

I guess if you're a divorce judge, you probably get tired of hearing the stories. So rather than quit, one divorce judge decided to address the couples before they got to her court room. Judge Lynn Toler will share her knowledge with troubled couples on "Decision House" on MyNetworkTV, Wednesday at 7 pm. Decision House is a one-hour show that takes troubled married couples and puts them in a home. They're monitored by cameras - and experts - and the judge comes in at the end to mediate. The creator of the show is Dr. Phil's son--I guess it runs in the family. If you watch it, tell us what you think on our message board.

What's That Dear?

You think you have to repeat yourself multiple times before your spouse hears you? Try being married to a rock star. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame says his deafness has caused problems in his marriage because sometimes his wife will talk and he says she sounds like Charlie Brown's schoolteacher. At least he's got an excuse, try to put your listening ears on guys.

Rocker Says Marriage Changed Him For Better

The brash, immature punk frontman of Sum 41, Deryck Whibley, says that marriage has changed him. I think we just received another subscription to the hitchedmag.com newsletter. Whibley was quoted, saying, "I don't know how it has, but I believe that no matter what you do, big or small, it has some kind of impact on the way you view life. There's purpose in everything we do." Ahh, little Deryck is growing up. The two Canadians, Whibley and wife Avril Lavigne tied the knot last July.

Interracial Marriage Pioneers

Forty years ago Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mildred Jeter (a black woman) and Richard Loving (a white man), overturning laws prohibiting interracial unions. Mildred, who took Richard's last name after they got married spoke with the Associated Press about this historic event. The Lovings were living in segregated Virginia when they got married and quickly found themselves in jail. When all was said and done, they had created the foundation for the changing face of America. It's scary to think that just a few decades ago, interracial couples went to jail for their love. We should be thankful for the courage the Lovings have shown.

Rich Eisen, the face of the NFL Network received an e-mail from Philly anchorwoman Alycia Lane. The e-mail contained seven pictures of Lane in a bikini. The problem, Lane sent the e-mails to an address Eisen shares with his wife, ABC sideline reporter Suzy Shuster. It looks like Lane was trying to draft a guy who was already under contract. Shuster commented in this article that she replied and even gave Lane her husband's solo e-mail address! Now that's trust. Again according to the article, here's the e-mail Shuster sent back:
"Boy, do you look amazing in a bikini . . . congrats! Whatever you're doing, (Pilates? yoga?) keep doing it - it's working for you. Anyway, sorry but those seven e-mails you sent to my husband, Rich, well, oops, they came to the e-mail address we both use from time to time, but no worries, I'll forward the beach shots as well as the ones of you dancing with your friends on to his main address. Do you have it?"

How would you react? Who knew Eisen was this generation's Ron Burgundy? Comment about this on our message boards.

Pinkett Will Ditch Career For Marriage

It's not uncommon in today's society for a marriage to have dual careers. But, how far would you go if you had to choose between what you loved and who you loved? For film actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, she would rather salvage her marriage saying, "I'm aware how busy careers can quickly lead to divorce, but I'm not going to let that happen to us. I made it clear to Will [Smith] that I'd throw it away completely, which is what I'm doing to a certain extent." Now, this is nice but, again, they could both give up their careers and still be OK. Nonetheless, is this something you would do? Could you still survive financially if you or your spouse gave up their career? We would love to know.

The Great One's Wife Fires Back

Remember about one year ago when the possibility of the greatest player to ever play a team sport was involved in something called "Operation Slap Shot?" (The internal investigation of a New Jersey State Trooper involved in a gambling ring that eventually found its way back to Wayne Gretzky, his wife Janet and assistant coach, Rick Tocchet.) Well, now that the media is less involved, Janet Jones (Gretzky's wife) is speaking out and saying in the May issue of "Globe and Mail" that it was, "Unfair that Wayne and I have had a great marriage for 20 years and a nice family, and the people in the media could care less if they are trying to cause friction in your marriage, trouble in your family, and make your kids feel a certain way." Hey, Janet? You could always read hitchedmag.com for advice on how to handle husband and family issues. Click here for the full article.

What Isn't Happening On 7/7/07

As if inventing the Internet wasn't enough, the number one supporter of earth has now invented the festival to end all festivals. Yes, Al Gore will be bringing some of the music industries biggest names together this summer in a massive one-day, world-wide event called "Live Earth". Slated for July 7, the concert to fight climate change will take place in London, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Sydney and locations to be announced in Japan, Brazil and America. But it wouldn't be a true world-wide event until you added a show in Antartica. That's right, some lucky bands will be playing on an ice sheet. "This is all about getting people's attention" said Gore, "and then asking them to answer the call to save ourselves and give solutions for communities, families and for nations."

"The Whole Substance To My Rap"

Marriage isn't easy. Trust us, we give couples advice everyday on a broad range of subjects that never ends. But imagine how difficult marriage would be if you had half a catalog of dark, depressing rap songs with your name and likeliness associated with them. (We haven't had our experts answer that... yet). For Eminem's twice on and twice off again wife, Kim Mathers, the lyrics became too much and admits she tried to kill herself one night after her, then, husband's concert. "He was singing a song that was about me and he had a blow-up doll up on stage that looked like me and he was physically beating it and kicking it," says Kim, "Seeing the crowd response and everybody cheering, singing the words and laughing... I knew that it was about me, and that night I went home and I tried to commit suicide." The interview, on "The Dr. Keith Ablow" show, airs tomorrow.

Not So Husband-and-Chief

Over the past seven or so odd years, President George W. Bush has convinced a lot of people that he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. And, now, he probably just sealed the deal with the person closest to him: his wife, Laura. In a recent interview with daytime talk-show host Rachael Ray, the First Lady confessed that the husband-and-chief wasn't to keen on remembering Valentine's Day. "There's a White House florist, so they always send up flowers and he signs the card," she said. As for this year, Mrs. Bush said the two will probably share a romantic dinner together. Hey Laura, if your reading this, get him a subscription to the greatest marriage magazine on the planet here

Aguilera's Naughty Sunday's

It's not the most religious way to celebrate your Sunday's, but Christina Aguilera and her husband Jordan Bratman have found a way to keep their marriage of just over one year spicy--by getting naked. Not so far-fetched to believe for the once aptly named Xtina, during her "Dirty" days, Aguilera admitted on the Ellen DeGeneres show that even after one year, "You have to keep marriage alive, spice it up." Ellen gave her cautionary reply to the saucy songbird saying, "Not with grease--that could splatter," which Aguilera replied, "Well, unless you want the grease." Hot...
For a continuing first hand account on marriage, read April Yayoi Johnson's online entries regarding her first year of marriage beginning this Sunday night. You might learn something.

Romeo and Juliet Unearthed?

The AP is reporting that archaeologists have unearthed what could be humanities oldest story of doomed love or Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." In a town 25 miles south of Verona, where the love story took place, the two skeletons were found locked in a romantic embrace. Lead archaeologist Elena Menotti says the two are believed to be a man and a woman and are thought to have died at a young age. Although the Romeo and Juliet possibility is far fetched, experts will study the skeletons to determine the age of the two. Details of whether the two will be considered for a future cover of Hitched magazine is also up for debate. E-mail us with your thoughts. Here's a link to the full article.

Oscar Nominations

Yesterday we covered the Razzies, today we cover the Oscars. Leading in Oscar nominations was Snakes On A Plane with 10. Just kidding, Dreamgirls led the Oscar nods with eight. Surpising to some, it was not nominated for best picture. Instead Babel, The Departed, Letters From Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Queen are up for the grand prize. Dreamgirls was up for three original song Oscars, a couple for acting and a few in other technical categories. The year's biggest blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest nabbed four nominations--all in technical categories. Snakes On A Plane was snubbed...or not. Who do you think got snubbed? Here's a full list of nominations.

Razzie Nominations

If you aren't familiar with the Razzies, they're the anti-Oscars. So rather than honoring the best, they highlight the worst of the year. The leader in Razzie nominations this year is Basic Instinct 2, with seven nominations including a nod for worst picture. Also included in the worst picture category were BloodRayne, Lady in the Water, and The Wicker Man. So who was snubbed this year? Razzie founder John Wilson said he was surprised that Sylvester Stallone, who's been nominated for 30 Razzies in the past and won 10 did not get a single nomination according to this USA Today article. About Rocky Balboa, Wilson said, "I would like to publicly say that Stallone has made a good movie." It's really nice that Wilson was willing to admit that, but does M. Night Shyamalan's "Lady in the Water" really deserve a Razzie nomination. Sure, it didn't get a lot of viewers in theaters, but that doesn't make it a worst of the year. What do you think?

According to this release, the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine has an interview with Snoop Dogg, in which he opens up about his life as a real life pimp and how that almost cost him his marriage.
