Sanger Family of Wines invites guests to fully savor the Mediterranean lifestyle as they discover three distinctive wine brands, all born on California’s Central Coast. In late 2013, Bill and Jan Sanger, proprietors of Marianello, welcomed Consilience and Tre Anelli into the Sanger Family of Wines—creating an exciting portfolio inspired by the wines of Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The releases from all three labels are under the direction of Winemaker Brett Escalera.

Bill, a first generation Italian-American, was exposed to the Italian culture by his grandparents who resided in Rome. From an early age, healthy doses of art, literature, food, wine, and olive oil were a way of life for Bill. When he and his wife Jan purchased a property in the Santa Ynez Valley planted mostly to olive trees, he recognized that the terroir was very similar to conditions in Tuscany, so he planted a block of Sangiovese as well. Their first vintage of Marianello Wines was released just in time for the 2013 Sunset International Wine Competition, where the Cielo Rubio Proprietary Red promptly earned a Gold medal.

Jan was raised in Montreal and has always had a love for the French culture, so it’s appropriate that Consilience has also become part of the Sanger Family of Wines. Consilience began in 1999 with one beautiful Syrah and focused on wines made from Rhône grape varieties. Today, its offerings have expanded to include wines produced with traditional Burgundy, Bordeaux, and California varieties.

The sunny Iberian and Mediterranean climates of Spain, Portugal, and Italy are the muse for Tre Anelli wines. The Sangers inherited a magnificent wine portfolio crafted first and foremost to accompany the cuisine of California’s coast. These are bold, flavorful wines that seductively pair with the region’s grilled meats, Santa Maria–style barbecue, and Marianello Olive Oil, grown on the Sanger Olive Farm.

Regardless of what’s planned for dinner, a perfect pairing is waiting in the Sanger Family of Wines.
