Guests who contact the concierge at least a day in advance can enjoy a seated food pairing. They can also reserve a spot on the vineyard-to-bottle tour offered each day.”
Majestically seated at the southern gateway to the Napa Valley, Jamieson Ranch Vineyards welcomes guests with award-winning wines, sophisticated cuisine, and jaw-dropping vista views. In the mid-1800s, the 300-acre property was part of General Mariano Vallejo’s Rancho Suscol. Today, cattle still graze on the gently rolling hills, and sheep tend to the weeds in the terraced vineyards.

First-time guests often remark on the beauty of the property. They’re reminded of a grand western mountain lodge with lofty ceilings, an inviting fireplace, and a wraparound veranda providing unrivaled views of the Napa Valley and San Pablo Bay. They’re equally impressed as they sample the small production wines. Recently, The Tasting Panel awarded the 2011 Jamieson Ranch Double Lariat Cabernet 94 points, and the 2012 Reata Three County Pinot Noir received 90 points from Wine Enthusiast. Some guests who watch the Today Show mention that they heard that the winery’s 2012 Light Horse Pinot Noir is one of the best on the market.

To complement its impressive portfolio and demonstrate the bounty of the ranch, the winery has introduced an innovative new culinary program called Napa Comfort Food: Wood-Fired|Wine Friendly. Jamieson Ranch’s chef sources the season’s freshest ingredients—often from the estate’s own organic gardens—and whips up mouthwatering comfort food on a wood fire grill. Guests who contact the concierge at least a day in advance can enjoy a seated food pairing. They can also reserve a spot on the vineyard-to-bottle tour offered each day.

There’s something about the grandness of Jamieson Ranch and excellence of its wines that makes folks want to plan a party. From wedding celebrations, to corporate retreats, to family reunions, Jamieson Ranch Vineyards is an ideal choice, offering three elegant and unique venues: the Overlook Veranda, the Estate Ballroom, and the Observation Gallery. As the region’s southernmost winery, Jamieson Ranch Vineyard is an ideal first or last stop on the savvy wine tourist’s next visit to the Napa Valley.

An Interview With Enologist Juan Jose Verdina

T&T: You came to Jamieson Ranch last year with a great résumé that includes winemaking at Hahn Estates and Cycles Gladiator. Has your past influenced the winemaker you are today? How?

JV:
My past work experience at Hahn Estates and Cycles Gladiator has absolutely influenced who I am as a winemaker today. There, I had the amazing opportunity to work with high quality grapes from the Santa Lucia Highlands as well as other appellations using various techniques, both traditional as well as utilizing new technologies.

T&T: What can we expect from your first Jamieson Ranch vintage?

JV:
You can expect a complex and expressive wine with notes of bright fruit and an elegant finish. In fact, we recently released the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc (my first Jamieson release). It has pretty, tropical aromas of guava and pineapple; and a full, crisp and welcoming subtle richness that comes from barrel fermentation. I’m also excited about the 2014 Viognier, the 2014 Rosé of Pinot Noir, and the 2014 Aurelius, a white blend of Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier—all being released this year. All of these wines are welcoming, aromatic, and engulfing in their own way.

T&T: In the years ahead, what is your vision? How would you like Jamieson Ranch to be known?

JV:
My vision for the future is for Jamieson Ranch Vineyards to be recognized for the quality of our wines with a high attention to detail, hence giving our wine a distinct profile. I hope that when one opens a bottle of Jamieson Ranch wine, they will not only enjoy the wine itself, but associate it with their own unique memory identified with its taste. Accordingly, I hope our customers recapture this feeling every time they see our labels.
